Chelsea star Carney Chukwuemeka is expected to miss the next six weeks with a knee problem.

That is according to journalist Tom Roddy.

Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday morning on their official website that Carney Chukwuemeka, 19, has undergone surgery this week on the recent injury he sustained to his left knee.

The attacking midfielder scored his first senior goal in Sunday’s 3-1 Premier League defeat against West Ham, but was forced to limp off the pitch with an injury setback.

The club provided no timeframe regarding Chukwuemeka’s potential return date for Chelsea.

However, Tom Roddy has reported on social media this morning that the 19-year-old youngster could be absent for six weeks.

“Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka expected to be out for around six weeks with left knee injury,” he wrote on Twitter.

Some supporters will have feared much worse when they saw Chukwuemeka leave the pitch at the London Stadium the way he did.

It’s certainly not ideal to lose the exciting talent for the next couple of months, but it’s worth pointing out the six-week period does include a September international break that lasts two weeks.

The timing of the injury is far from ideal for the player, though. Mauricio Pochettino started him in the opening two games of the Premier League season, which does suggests he’s making a very positive impression on the head coach.

It’s quite something that Blues legend Marcel Desailly described Chukwuemeka as an “artist” for his performance against West Ham, as quoted by Premier League productions (20/08/23, 5:30pm).
