Sky Sports News have claimed that Graham Potter will be without Wesley Fofana for Chelsea’s first Premier League return against Bournemouth next week.
The Frenchman was forced off the pitch in a behind closed doors friendly against Brentford yesterday. The game had finished in a comprehensive win for Chelsea, with Kai Havertz among the goals with a hat-trick.
Fofana has not been seen in Chelsea colours since the Champions League match against AC Milan at Stamford Bridge.
After opening the scoring, he was forced off the pitch with a knee injury.
Sky Sports News have claimed that the injury suffered yesterday is believed to be a reoccurrence of the same issue from October, and although a date of recovery is not yet set, he is ‘out of contention’ for the Bournemouth match.
Fofana out for Bournemouth
This means it is likely that Trevoh Chalobah starts on the right of a back three when the Blues get back in action on Tuesday.
This will not be a new sight for Chelsea fans, with them being more than used to the Englishman starting since Graham Potter took over.
He has been near enough an ever-present thanks to the injury problems at the back for the Blues.
Despite performances likened to that of a solider by his manager, fatigue did begin to play a part in his performances as they limped towards the World Cup break.
After not being selected by England, he has enjoyed a full winter camp with the first team, and will no doubt be ready to go again.
Alongside him, he may be able to play with Reece James for the first time since October too, with the England international hopeful that he has spent enough time recovering from injury to be fit for football again.
