Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana could reportedly be back from injury and playing again next month.

Fofana, who’s one of a few key Chelsea players sidelined through injury right now, is currently absent with a knee problem.

The 21-year-old defender has missed the last two games across all competitions after sustaining an injury in the Champions League against AC Milan, hurting himself in a match he actually scored in before coming off the pitch.

Graham Potter said two days ago in a press conference that he doesn’t think Chelsea fans will see Fofana back playing before the World Cup begins in November.

However, one claim from a well-respected journalist has potentially cast doubt over comments from Chelsea’s boss.

Wesley Fofana injury

Chelsea play nine games before club football takes a mini break in mid-November to make room for the winter World Cup in Qatar.

Despite Potter’s recent update on Fofana, perhaps Blues supporters may see him back in action before the international tournament.

Journalist Simon Phillips has shared that some people within Chelsea do have “hope” the 21-year-old centre-back could make a comeback from injury next month.

When asked if Fofana has a chance of playing before the World Cup, Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s a little touch and go right now and it will depend on his recovery when he returns to group training, but there is some hope that he will play, coming from Chelsea.”

It would be great to see Fofana get back on the pitch before there’s a break for Qatar.

The Blues play five more games in October, including away to Aston Villa tomorrow. Also, Chelsea have four games in the opening 12 days of November before the internationals take centre stage.

There’s no doubt these next few weeks will be a really testing one for the squad, so the sooner injured players return the better.

Tipped for a “massive future” at Chelsea by Ben Chilwell, Fofana is someone Potter’s side will really miss as an option during the next few weeks in defence.

Phillips does at least bring potentially positive news about the timeframe of his injury return, though.
