‘Brilliant': Gary Neville suggests Chelsea have a 21-year-old gem coming through
Gary Neville was full of praise for Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher last night after his performance for Crystal Palace in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal.
Gallagher, 21, is a talent coming through at Stamford Bridge that was sent out on loan this season.
The central midfielder joined London rivals Palace for a year and has quickly become an ever-present in Patrick Vieira’s starting XI at Selhurst Park.
He impressed last night with his Premier League display against Arsenal, showing a tenacious work rate and quality on the ball.
Sky Sports pundit Neville suggests that Chelsea have another gem on their books.
“I liked his energy. I liked his commitment to go press the ball… I thought when he got the ball he used it. I thought he was brilliant for Crystal Palace,” Neville said on Sky Sports during televised analysis of Arsenal v Palace (18 October, 2021).
“You need players in your team who are out of possession going to go win the ball back, do the hard yards, are going to be brave, and get on the ball in the Premier League.”
Gallagher improving at Palace
For certain, Gallagher is looking like a future Chelsea first teamer.
The English midfielder is thriving in a box-to-box role for a Palace side that try to play attractive football and keep possession.
Even some Arsenal fans were left praising him for his performance on Monday, which goes to show the kind of impact he’s having at his loan club.
It’s superb for his development that he’s playing regularly for a Premier League side and he’s consistently looking like one of their best individuals.
He’s going to be one hell of a player when he tightens up his decision making, something that will happen with more experience for the youngster.
Chelsea academy strikes again
Chelsea’s youth system has to be one of the best in Europe right now.
Obviously, there are plenty of young talents to come through at Cobham that won’t make it as Chelsea players.
However, the likes of Marc Guehi and Tino Livramento are thriving at Premier League clubs after permanent exits.
Gallagher very much looks like he could follow in the footsteps of Reece James and Mason Mount, though. They are both first-team stars with the Blues after prevoius loan spells away from Chelsea learning their craft.
