Pat Nevin criticised Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for his performance in this weekend’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

The Blues came away from Stamford Bridge with a single point from their Premier League fixture at home to Arsenal, which may have seemed a good one pre-match. However, the mood is tinged with sadness after throwing away a two-goal lead.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side should take big positives from the overall team performance. Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk helped the hosts race into a well-deserved lead. However, Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard were both on the scoresheet late on for the visitors.

Chelsea throw it away

Unfortunately, there’s some mistakes to reflect on from Chelsea as they chucked away two league points.

Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, 25, didn’t shine for Rice’s goal. His misplaced pass was pounced upon by the Arsenal midfielder to reduce the deficit.

Meanwhile, Malo Gusto may have defended a bit better for Trossard’s equaliser.

BBC pundit Pat Nevin did highlight Sanchez as a real negative performer for Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Nevin told BBC Sport (7:18pm, 21 October): “All of a sudden Arsenal have a lifeline. The Chelsea keeper at fault there – but both keepers have been bad today. It was a great finish.”

Robert Sanchez under pressure

We’ve been pretty happy with Sanchez’s performances for Chelsea so this season. It’s worth remembering it’s his first few months at the club, too.

However, there’s a few cracks appearing if he wants to be the long-term number one keeper at Stamford Bridge.

It’s now several occasions where his passing has come under scrutiny. In fact, he did look shaky in most department when Arsenal piled on pressure earlier today.

WhoScored recorded Chelsea keeper Sanchez in their September Team of the Month.

It’ll be interesting to see how he can respond in the next few games, especially as there’s some more tough league fixtures ahead.

We’ve seen both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy shipped out by Chelsea in 2023, so the goalkeeper position is certainly one that carries a lot of pressure.
