Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has made an interesting claim about Chelsea’s players after coming up against his former club in pre-season.

Real Madrid edged past Chelsea on Wednesday with a 2-1 win during a pre-season friendly in the United States.

During a post-match interview on Chelsea’s official website, Enzo Maresca said the Blues struggled defensively against Madrid, so it’s definitely an area that needs addressing going into the new season.

Maresca’s side have finished their United States tour this summer by conceding 12 goals in five friendly matches. It feels like the defensive positions are still very much up in the air right now.

Carlo Ancelotti comments on intense Chelsea

Carlo Ancelotti, the former Chelsea boss, is currently the mastermind at Madrid. His side narrowly beat the Blues during Wednesday’s pre-season game.

Interestingly, the Italian manager commented that Chelsea’s players are extremely quick and it was an intense match this week.

“The match was intense, fast and with a lot of changes up front because Chelsea have very speedy players. It was a game with a lot of transitions and it was good for us to play,” Ancelotti said via Real Madrid’s official website.

There was a lot of dynamism in Chelsea’s starting line-up with the likes of Marc Guiu, Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke. It could be a real feature of the team next season attacking with pace and width.

Who’s the fastest player at Chelsea?

Speaking via Chelsea’s official app earlier in August, Mykhailo Mudryk confidently said he’s the quickest Chelsea player. He did acknowledge Blues teammates Sterling, Armando Broja and Malo Gusto as fast, though.

If you’re looking further afield in the squad, Nicolas Jackson, Ben Chilwell and Wesley Fofana are some more individuals with a great turn of pace.

For a creative playmaker like Cole Palmer, it’s important that he’s got fast runners off him to allow him the space to work his magic.
