Chelsea fans are all saying the same thing after Benoit Badiashile’s performance against Aston Villa

It was an interesting game this evening for Chelsea’s Benoit Badiashile, who played out of position in the goalless draw against Aston Villa.

Chelsea and Villa ended up in a 0-0 stalemate at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup fourth round tie. Therefore, the two Premier League rivals will clash again next month at Villa Park for a cup replay.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side may reflect on a wasted opportunity on Friday night, especially with some of the chances they missed in the first-half.

Overall, the Blues are heading in the right direction and becoming a lot more competitive.

Benoit Badiashile, 22, had to start the game tonight at left-back against Villa.

The left-footed centre-back moved across the defence because of an injury to Levi Colwill in the warm up, but he didn’t look out of place in his new position.

He put in a steady performance for 65 minutes at left-back before a reshuffle restored him to his natural centre-half spot. In fact, his only nervous moments in the game came late on as a central defender.

Chelsea fans impressed by Benoit Badiashile at left-back

A selection of Blues supporters on social media think Badiashile coped really well in the left-back role.

We didn’t see much of him overlapping or getting forward from full-back, but was very comfortable in the wide area.

Many fans on X believe Badiashile did well at left-back and prefer him over Colwill in that position.

One fan said: “Badiashile has done a nice job at left-back today.”

Another posted: “Badiashile great LB/LCB performance. Him and [Malo] Gusto as our LB and RB would be great.”

A third claimed: “Badiashile hasn’t been terrible at left-back.”

Another wrote: “Badiashile is a better make shift option at left back than Colwill. Far more agile and calm when being fronted up.”

A fifth supporter said: “Badiashile actually looking more competent at LB as it suits his game more then Colwill. Both not ideal, but I’ve been thinking he may just slightly suit it more then Colwill for a while. Worthy experiment.”

Another wrote: “Badiashile has been good on the ball. His headers lead to good passes too.”
