Nicolas Jackson certainly made the most of his return to the Chelsea starting line-up yesterday.

Fresh off back-to-back huge defeats in the Premier League, the Blues responded last night with a comprehensive 3-1 away win against Aston Villa in an FA Cup fourth round replay.

Nicolas Jackson put down a marker with an eye-catching performance at Villa Park.

The 22-year-old attacker was heavily involved for the build up to Conor Gallagher’s opening goal with a powerful dribble.

Also, he got on the scoresheet himself to make it 2-0 with a well guided header.

Jackson’s now up nine goals in 25 Chelsea appearances during this debut season at Stamford Bridge.

Jackson was certainly one of the big talking points from Chelsea’s impressive midweek success.

The Senegal international plays most of his football centrally as a striker, but he lined up on the left as a conventional winger versus Aston Villa.

On top of his attacking contributions, we noticed he worked extremely hard off the ball as well.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast last month, Alan Shearer suggested Jackson isn’t good enough yet to be a regular starter in Chelsea’s line-up. Perhaps he may feel different after seeing his performance in a new forward role.

Chelsea fans agree on Nicolas Jackson

Blues supporters on social media agree that it was a masterstroke by head coach Mauricio Pochettino to start Jackson on the left wing against Villa.

Here are Chelsea fans on X praising Jackson’s display:

One fan posted: “Jackson on the left is the answer.”

Another said: “Poch you have change my life Jackson left wing masterclass.”

A third claimed: “Tell you what, Jackson down the left turning out to be a good one. Looks solid. Looks much more confident. Take ons are good.”

Another wrote: “Jackson running with the ball down that left flank is dangerous.”

A fifth supporter said: “Jackson is so much better on the left. Almost a different player.”

Another posted: “Jackson is definitely a left winger, not a striker. He looks so much better attacking out there driving towards the box.”
