Chelsea put in one of their poorest displays of the season on Friday night during a crushing 3-0 defeat away to Brighton.
Chelsea were beaten in convincing fashion by Brighton at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League fixture. Even though the Blues remain fourth in the division table for now, it’s another real blow to them in their fight for Champions League qualification.
Chelsea’s player ratings versus Brighton reflected a horrendous game from the majority of the Blues stars.
Enzo Maresca’s side now need to reset and make sure things change by the time they return to action away to Aston Villa on 22 February.

Chelsea fans react to Jadon Sancho performance vs Brighton
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media weren’t impressed by the contribution of Jadon Sancho during his performance against Brighton.
The 24-year-old winger, who was named on the bench, entered the action after only 20 minutes because of Noni Madueke’s injury. Unfortunately, he was part of a Blues attack that had no ideas at the Amex going forward.
Here are Blues fans on X that were angry with Sancho’s inability to take on opponents…
One fan wrote: “Sancho can’t attack the space except to cut inside? Too predictable and he’s got a Cucurella who’s virtually useless in wide offensive positions.”
“How many times have Sancho pass backwards tonight when he is supposed to take on his man,” another posted.
One supporter claimed: “Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto can’t even take on a player.”
“Sancho can’t even beat a player again! What is happening?” another said.
“Sancho is actually our worst winger man like he has zero substance when he enters the box,” another shared.
Speaking before Friday’s defeat, Jason Cundy said he wants Chelsea’s Sancho to be more creative. Unfortunately, he just gave another display that highlights his major weakness right now when it comes to failing to be a significant goal threat.
On his day, the English wide man can be direct and glide past opposition players for fun. He’s simply not doing that at the moment, though.

Jadon Sancho under some real pressure
The noise around Sancho is getting louder and louder with every underwhelming display in 2025.
It was frustrating to see the left-winger look so quiet and ineffective against Brighton, especially because opposition wing-back Yankuba Minteh isn’t a defender by trade.
| Minutes played | Total shots | Successful dribbles | Touches in opposition box | Chances created | Passes into final third | Match rating |
| 69 | 0 | 2/5 (40%) | 3 | 1 | 1 | 6.2 |
Sancho will join Chelsea permanently this summer if they finish 15th or higher in the Premier League, so fans know he’s going to be back at Stamford Bridge next season. It means that Maresca has to try find a way to get him recapturing his best form.
We saw earlier in the season that he did have a spark and confidence in his game, but that does feel like quite a long time ago now.
