Chris Sutton ripped into Chelsea straight after they were beaten by Liverpool in the League Cup final this afternoon.

Chelsea’s horrid run in cup finals continued on Sunday, losing for the sixth straight time in a domestic cup final.

The Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat after extra-time at Wembley Stadium against Liverpool.

Despite creating several glorious chances to score, Mauricio Pochettino’s side couldn’t find a way past Reds goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Eventually, Virgil van Dijk scored an 118th minute winning goal to clinch the trophy for Merseyside giants Liverpool.

Speaking via Sky Sports on co-commentary (4:52pm, 25 February), Gary Neville said Van Dijk would’ve hated playing against Nicolas Jackson today. However, he won that battle before scoring a famous winnner.

Chris Sutton reacted on social media to this weekend’s League Cup final match. In particular, there was a pretty brutal five-word assessment to describe a Chelsea team that ended up on the losing side.

Sutton wrote on X: “Liverpool is a football club with a huge heart… Chelsea don’t have a heart…”

Chelsea disappointment

You can’t help but feel like the whole Chelsea squad will be having nightmares about today at Wembley.

On top of missing so many great chances to score, they went inside their shell for the 30 minutes of extra-time.

If you look at the inexperience in the Liverpool XI that finished the cup final, it’s staggering that Chelsea didn’t do more to impose themselves and go win the cup final.

Yes, anyone can lose a cup final, albeit it’s becoming a very bad habit for our club. But this is one of the opportunities that the entire group of players and coaching staff should look back at with huge regret.

The 2023/24 campaign is now really hanging by a thread…
