Christopher Nkunku was key in the Blues’ third-round win, scoring a hat-trick. It took his tally for the season to six goals, with the 26-year-old being absolutely clinical in the cup competitions.

Enzo Maresca was impressed with Nkunku’s latest display and the Frenchman would have also been happy with his and the team’s overall performance. However, he has still sent a warning to his teammates.

Long season for Chelsea

While things are going well for Chelsea right now, Nkunku has warned the team that it is a very long season and that they cannot just rely on talent.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the 5-0 win against Barrow, he said: “We have a good squad with a lot of talent. I think we need to be focused.

“What we need to be focused [on] is to work hard because it’s not only talent. The season is also long with a lot of games, so everybody needs to be focused.”

Chelsea’s squad certainly is filled with talent at present. As well as Nkunku, it also contains the likes of Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho and Joao Felix.

Palmer was rested for the Barrow win but will be expected to return for Brighton & Hove Albion’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

“He’s just an incredible footballer,” Danny Murphy said about Palmer when discussing the 22-year-old earlier this week.

Chelsea can win Carabao Cup

Last season, Chelsea came close to winning the Carabao Cup, losing 1-0 to rivals Liverpool in the final.

With the squad that they have got, they could easily book another ticket to Wembley and perhaps get over the finishing line this time around.

It would be a nice achievement, especially with this being Maresca‘s first season in charge. However, the team’s ultimate objective will be finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League.

If Nkunku, Jackson and Palmer keep scoring, then it is a goal that they can certainly reach. That and triumph in the Carabao Cup or/and Conference League would delight Chelsea supporters.
