Danny Murphy has showered one Chelsea star with praise by insisting that he’s the individual who makes them tick on the football pitch.

The early success this season under Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is partly down to the consistency that he’s found in his starting line-up. So far, the Blues have picked up 10 points from their opening five games in the Premier League.

There’s seven players in the Chelsea squad that have started every league match so far, and that consistency is really paying off.

The Blues recorded an impressive 3-0 win away at West Ham last Saturday to keep up their momentum. In fact, Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson were included in the Premier League Team of the Week.

Cole Palmer is the heartbeat of Chelsea

Danny Murphy believes that Chelsea have an excellent squad of players at their disposal, but he ranks Cole Palmer as head and shoulders above the rest. He’s explained that the 22-year-old attacking playmaker makes the Blues tick as a team.

“Chelsea have no doubt got some super players, the best one being Cole Palmer. He’s just an incredible footballer. Super confident, super intelligent, makes them tick, breeds confidence throughout,” Murphy told talkSPORT.

The burden easing on Cole Palmer

The amount of pressure that Chelsea put on Palmer to deliver each week last season was unfair. Remarkably, the Englishman took that responsibility on his young shoulders by scoring 25 goals and making 15 assists during his debut year in west London.

Yet again, Palmer has started this term in impressive attacking form. He’s got two goals and four assists in the opening five Premier League matches.

The left-footed technician is thriving in a more central No.10 position, where he’s got a real freedom to roam and get possession in-between the lines.

Thankfully, Chelsea teammates around him are now picking up their game and sharing the load. We’re seeing the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho ease the pressure on Palmer.
