Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia both helped Chelsea to beat Newcastle United 2-1 on Sunday.

Cole Palmer started in attack for the Blues and scored the winning goal for his side, while Romeo Lavia lined up in midfield.

Lavia was making his third start of the season, which can only be seen as a huge positive. The 20-year-old was only able to make one appearance last term because of injury, but he now looks to have put that behind him.

Lavia has a lot of faith in his teammates despite not having too many opportunities to play alongside them since arriving at Chelsea.

Cole Palmer praises Romeo Lavia

Lavia uploaded a few pictures on Instagram after the Newcastle game to celebrate Chelsea’s win.

Plenty of Chelsea players replied to the Belgian’s post, including Palmer. In response, the 22-year-old hailed his teammate as “The best”.

Unfortunately, Chelsea supporters have not got to see how good Lavia truly is because of all of his injury problems.

However, he is fully fit again and they are now starting to see him shine. Darren Bent thinks Lavia brings more protection to this Chelsea side.

Romeo Lavia’s performance against Newcastle

Enzo Maresca will be pleased with Lavia’s most recent display. According to Sofascore, he recorded the fifth-most defensive actions in Chelsea’s team on Sunday, which included two clearances and two interceptions.

It helped the Belgium international to earn a 7.3 match rating on the same website. He has now given Maresca a big decision to make.

Enzo Fernandez has been an automatic starter for Chelsea since arriving from Benfica last year, costing the club more than £100m. But with Lavia having impressed every time he has played, the former Southampton man is deserving of a spot right now.

If Lavia can maintain his form, then Maresca is going to have to pick between the youngster and Fernandez.
