ESPN pundit explains why Chelsea have become ‘very scary’ under Enzo Maresca after Brighton win

Chelsea tore through Brighton & Hove Albion’s defence in their 4-2 win against the Seagulls on Saturday.

Cole Palmer scored all four of Chelsea‘s goals, and the Blues really could have had more as the 22-year-old and the rest of the team’s attack sliced through Brighton’s backline.

Enzo Maresca‘s men got all three points, though, which was the most important thing. Frank Lampard was there to witness the win and would have been applauding Palmer’s exceptional performance.

One pundit thinks Maresca has quickly transformed Chelsea into an absolutely frightening team.

Chelsea’s transformation under Enzo Maresca

ESPN pundit Luis Miguel Echegaray discussed Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke following Chelsea’s win against Brighton.

He believes that they have helped Maresca to create a “scary” counter-attacking team at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on ESPN, he said: “Maresca has created such a counter-attacking machine with Noni Madueke now who’s doing way more than just doing things in fragments. Nico Jackson, by the way, the partnership that he has with Cole Palmer as well, then you have Pedro Neto who can contribute.

“Joao Felix, of course, there’s so much talent and yes, it is early in the season, and yes, Robert Sanchez made a few mistakes today [yesterday] and they do concede goals. But this is a very scary Chelsea team.”

Maresca would have been delighted with Chelsea’s display overall, but he was not always happy.

During one moment of the game, for example, Maresca was seen shouting at Mykhailo Mudryk.

Chelsea’s attack terrifying

Defences across the Premier League certainly will be worried about coming up against this Chelsea attack.

On the counter, the Blues look menacing all of the time. Palmer always makes the right decision and perfectly executes his pass or shot, while some of Jackson’s finishing has been really good this season.

Chelsea are putting teams to the sword and supporters will hope to see that continue. What Maresca has to worry about is how leaky his defence has been.

Robert Sanchez made a couple of costly errors against the Seagulls. Sanchez took to social media to accept that after the game but needs to cut the mistakes out if Maresca’s men are to do something special this season.

Right now, the aim will be qualifying for the Champions League and with the forward line they have, it is possible. But if this team can start defending better, who knows? Maybe a title charge could be on the horizon.
