Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling was brilliant in the draw against Manchester City.

That is according to Daniel Sturridge.

Chelsea go into the international break off the back of a crazy 4-4 draw versus Man City in the Premier League.

The Blues showed their quality and fighting spirit in Sunday’s thriller at Stamford Bridge.

Thiago Silva’s equalising goal made it 1-1 on half an hour after Erling Haaland’s opener from the penalty spot. Afterwards, the teams went into the interval at 2-2 because of goals from Raheem Sterling and Manuel Akanji.

It looked like Man City would leave West London with a victory because of goals from Haaland, Nicolas Jackson and Rodri. However, Cole Palmer made it 4-4 in stoppage time with a penalty against the club that sold him a few months ago.

Daniel Sturridge applause

Daniel Sturridge, who’s now a Sky Sports pundit, waxed lyrical about Sterling because of today’s performance.

“Sterling is in the centre of the goal, the key position to be as the far winger. Whenever you see that other side, the key is to be in the central position within the box to be able to tap in. A much-deserved goal for Raheem today. He’s been fantastic,” Sturridge told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (5:30pm, 12 November).

Raheem Sterling dazzles

This was the kind of performance that makes a mockery of the fact that England boss Gareth Southgate has omitted Sterling from the latest squad.

Sterling, who had extra motivation against his former club, looked superb all game versus Man City.

We don’t see many players cause real problems against right-back Kyle Walker, but Chelsea’s rapid winger when toe-to-toe with his old teammate.

Speaking via Football.London in his pre-match press conference, Man City boss Pep Guardiola singled out Sterling as an in-form Chelsea player. His side did then struggle to cope at the weekend.

We know that the £50million winger (Daily Mail) would have loved to be with England for the next two week. For Chelsea, they’ll be happy the individual can put his feet up for a little while and recharge his batteries.

He’s one of the first name in the Blues line-up when he’s in this form!
