Malo Gusto is one of the latest Chelsea players to feature in a warm-up match for his country, France, as the 2026 World Cup edges closer.
Malo Gusto didn’t have an outstanding campaign at Chelsea, but he was one of the more consistent players in what was a terrible season for everyone involved.
He did enough to earn a call-up to France’s 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup and showcased his talent in the final warm-up match against Northern Ireland.
Entering the fray as a half-time substitute for Jules Kounde, Gusto put in a complete display at right-back. He locked down his defensive duties and capped off his 45-minute display by registering an assist for Michael Olise to help secure a comfortable 3–1 victory for Les Bleus.
How much do YOU think Adam Wharton is worth? 💸
Chelsea only want to pay £50m-£60m.
Malo Gusto praised by French media outlets
Despite only playing 45 minutes, Gusto made an impact in attack, which is promising for the potential wing-back role he play at Chelsea next season.
Just the one negative against Northern Ireland appeared to revolve around his defensive work.
Eurosport – 5.5 – He was the one who made the difference on the second goal of the Blues with his body feint. He often tried to force the trunk, but also left spaces in his back. Fortunately, Olise was watching.
Maxifoot – 6 – who weighed more on the offensive side. The proof is in his feigned sequence of body and cross at the origin of Olise’s second goal.
Looking back at Christian Pulisic’s time at Chelsea, how would you desrcibe it?🤔
Malo Gusto’s stats for France against Northern Ireland
FotMob actually gave Malo Gusto a 7.4 out of 10 for his display against Northern Ireland.
He had 41 touches, a passing accuracy percentage of 91, one assist, created one chance, made four passes into the opposition’s box, failed his only cross, made one tackle, four recoveries and won his only duel.
It’s unlikely he’ll be the starting right-back for France when they kick off their World Cup campaign due to Jules Kounde’s standing, but he’s doing everything he can to apply the pressure.
