Chelsea’s Cole Palmer even managed to impress the German media with his performance against Bayern Munich in Europe.

It turned out to be a disappointing return to the Champions League for Cole Palmer, losing against Bayern as they inflicted a 3-1 scoreline on Chelsea at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

Even though Palmer was on the losing side, he still managed to showcase why he’s one of the most talented footballers on the planet right now. In fact, the 23-year-old playmaker produced a memorable display for the Blues on the European stage, which included a superb left-footed finish past Manuel Neuer.

Owen Hargreaves described Palmer as “unique” after watching the Englishman impress against Bayern.

Cole Palmer display excites the German media

It’s a sign of Palmer’s brilliance against Bayern that he earned a glowing review from German media for his performance, even though his Chelsea side fell short on the night.

German newspaper Die Welt wrote: “The London Blues only managed to narrow the deficit to 1-2 through Cole Palmer (29th minute). A second goal from Chelsea’s best player was ruled out for offside (89th minute)… Chelsea also had class on the pitch: Cole Palmer scored a stunning equaliser after a rapid Chelsea counterattack.”

In his post-match interview, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca insisted Palmer is fit to ease concerns about the player holding his groin in the closing stages.

The last thing Chelsea need right now is for their talisman to pick up another injury. Fans will hope he’s ready to go again and play another 90 minutes this Saturday for the trip to Manchester United in the Premier League.

Cole Palmer marks 100th Chelsea appearance

It was a landmark moment for Palmer in Chelsea colours in midweek as he played his 100th game for the club. It is fair to say that he’s been a success so far, too.

Palmer now has 45 goals and 29 assists in 100 Blues appearances across all competitions since he arrived from Manchester City in 2023.

There is a strong argument to make that he’s the club’s best individual player since Eden Hazard. If he continues at this current trajectory, the sky is the limit for him.
