How Enzo Maresca reacted to hilarious Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke open goal moment

Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke produced one of the most bizarre moments of the season so far in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Leicester City.

One-nil up on the afternoon, Cole Palmer was about to put the game to bed with a tap in, only for Noni Madueke to block his shot.

It looked like a certain goal, with Palmer basically having a free net to shoot into, but Madueke could not get out of the way in time and ended up doing Leicester’s defending for them.

Chelsea were still able to win the game, though, with Enzo Fernandez eventually grabbing his side’s second goal of the match. Fernandez won plaudits from the English media with his overall display.

Enzo Maresca stunned

Like many Chelsea supporters would have been, Enzo Maresca was shocked with what he saw.

What should have been Chelsea’s second goal of the match, ended up being a goal kick to Leicester instead.

According to LondonWorld, after watching Madueke block Palmer’s goal-bound shot, all the Chelsea manager could do was put his head in his hands and turn to his bench in utter disbelief.

With all three points secured now, though, Maresca and Chelsea can laugh about it. All in all, Saturday proved to be a very good day for them after Manchester City’s heavy 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues are now only one point behind the Premier League champions.

Noni Madueke’s overall performance against Leicester

Madueke probably had an afternoon to forget. Not only did he prevent Palmer from scoring, but he also had a goal disallowed for offside.

That being said, it was not his worst performance of the season. The winger still managed to make two key passes and complete two dribbles.

However, Madueke needs to step it up, especially with Jadon Sancho back from injury and Pedro Neto performing so well in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal just before the international break.

Both players can start on the right and could easily take Madueke’s spot if the 22-year-old does not start scoring again.
