Enzo Fernandez put in one of his best performances in a Chelsea shirt on Saturday.

Chelsea managed to beat Leicester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium, with Enzo Fernandez having a role in both of his side’s goals.

The midfielder assisted Nicolas Jackson for the opener in the 15th minute before scoring himself in the second half.

Fernandez has now registered five assists in his last three games across all competitions after setting up Jackson.

English media impressed with Enzo Fernandez’s latest outing for Chelsea

Since arriving at Chelsea from Benfica in 2023, Fernandez has come in for a lot of criticism.

Costing the Blues over £100m, there is a consensus that the 23-year-old has simply not lived up to his price tag.

However, Fernandez reminded everyone on Saturday that there is a player in there with a brilliant performance for Enzo Maresca‘s side.

The Daily Mail gave Fernandez a match rating of 8.5, praising his “quick thinking” which helped Jackson to score.

Another English newspaper, the Daily Express, also gave the Argentine an eight. On his performance, they wrote: “Enzo looked tenacious in the midfield, and also nabbed a tidy assist.”

The Sun handed Fernandez an eight as well, while Sky Sports thought that the Chelsea star was actually worthy of a nine!

Maresca was keen to use Fernandez against Leicester after dropping the Argentina international from his starting XI and replacing him with Romeo Lavia.

Will Enzo Fernandez start Chelsea’s next Premier League game?

Next up for Chelsea in the Premier League is the visit of Aston Villa, which will not be an easy match.

The Villans are only three points behind the Blues and beat them in the same fixture last season.

Maresca may want to go with the physicality of Lavia and Moises Caicedo in the middle, but Fernandez certainly did enough to retain his spot in the team, so it would be a surprise if he dropped out.

All three of them starting could be an option, with that being something Chelsea fans saw at the start of the season in their side’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.
