Jamie O’Hara says £50m Chelsea player was so intelligent vs Tottenham

Jamie O’Hara hailed the intelligence of Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling in yesterday’s win against Tottenham.

Chelsea can begin reflecting on an important 4-1 win on Monday night away to Spurs in the Premier League.

The Blues are currently embarking on a very difficult run of league fixtures, but they ended the only unbeaten record in the division by winning away to Spurs last night.

Ange Postecoglou’s side imploded with two red cards inside the opening hour, plus they gave away a one-goal lead.

However, Mauricio Pochettino watched his Chelsea team claim a victory via Cole Palmer’s penalty and a Nicolas Jackson hat-trick.

O’Hara impressed

TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara thinks that Raheem Sterling was a real positive influence for Chelsea once Spurs went down to nine men. Incidentally, both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both rightly sent off.

The £50million winger (Daily Mail) did exploit the vast amount of space in behind. Eventually, he assisted Jackson’s opening goal to make it 2-1 with a simple squared pass.

O’Hara hailed Sterling’s game intelligence via talkSPORT (12:25am, 7 November): “He was good tonight, Sterling. He showed his pace. He figured it out. Good players on a football pitch figure out how to break you down. In that second-half when Spurs went down to nine and played that high line, it didn’t take him long to work out he had to run from deep.”

Speaking via Sky Sports last week, Paul Merson predicted that Spurs would struggle with Sterling’s pace. That prediction certainly came true.

Raheem Sterling returns

We still expect a bit more from Sterling’s all-round game and end product, but there’s no doubt he’s an important part of the current strongest XI at Stamford Bridge.

He’s now up to four goals and two assists across all competitions this season. It would be brilliant to see him reach double figures for both by the time the 2023/24 campaign ends because he’s certainly good enough.

There’s so many young stars across the Blues squad right now, so it’s important he sets the tone as a senior figure.
