Conor Gallagher will serve a one-game suspension after he was sent off in Chelsea’s win against Brighton on Sunday.

It was a joyous weekend for the Blues supporters, who watched their team record a narrow 3-2 home victory over Brighton in the Premier League.

The task was made a lot harder for Mauricio Pochettino’s side when Conor Gallagher received a red card on the stroke of half-time.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who had earlier been booked in the first-half, lunged in to earn his second yellow.

He’ll certainly owe his teammates a pat on the back for their efforts in the second period to hold on for maximum points. Speaking via Sky Sports in his post-match interview, Pochettino shared that at half-time he told his players they had 45 minutes to show they are a real team.

Jody Morris criticism

Jody Morris didn’t think Gallagher was that wise with his actions versus Brighton this afternoon.

“Conor Gallagher has picked up his second yellow. It’s a bit of a silly challenge from him,” Morris told Sky Sports News channel (2:49pm, 3 December).

“You always want to keep his enthusiasm and aggressiveness on the pitch, but the fact that he’s already on a yellow card… Conor has gone to ground when he didn’t really have to. For me it is a second yellow. Poor decision from Conor to make that tackle.”

Conor Gallagher red card

We all know Gallagher’s playing style is all-action and aggressive, but you’ve simply go to be smarter when you’ve already been booked.

The England international’s streak of starting every league mach this season will come to an end against Manchester United as a result of his suspension.

In fairness, the Blues were perhaps a tad fortunate that Moises Caicedo didn’t’ join him as another player to receive two bookings.
