Axel Disasi was super impressive during Chelsea’s memorable win over Middlesbrough this evening.

That is according to Jason Cundy.

Chelsea beat Championship club Middlesbrough 6-1 on Tuesday night in a Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. As a result, they’ll face either Fulham or Liverpool in next month’s final.

The Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg when they travelled to Boro, but they saved their shooing boots for tonight’s second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Despite plenty of criticism in the first half of the season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now only 90 minutes away from silverware.

Axel Disasi, 25, was one of numerous Chelsea players to put in eye-catching performances.

The versatile centre-back, who filled in at right-back against Boro, looked imperious.

He even grabbed his second goal for the club after bursting forward into the box and finishing tidily to make it 3-0 on the night.

Speaking at half-time, Cundy was waxing lyrical about Disasi’s contribution for Chelsea in the semi-final tie.

“The link up play between Disasi and Sterling has been good… Disasi on that side has been really impressive,” Cundy said via Chelsea’s 5th Stand app (8:50pm, 23 January).

When discussing his goal, he added: “He wins the ball. He anticipates. Brilliant defending. What I loved about it is he didn’t stop. You’re talking about a centre-half playing right-back. He continued his run… What a lovely goal that was.”

Axel Disasi impresses against Middlesbrough

Disasi is quietly going about his business this year as one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers. Let’s remember it’s his first season with the club and playing in this country, too.

The £39million Frenchman (Sky Sports) put in a really solid outing in a one-sided performance over Boro.

He’s done a great job making himself a nailed-on starter, whether he’s at full-back or centre-back.
