Cole Palmer was the outstanding player on the pitch during Chelsea’s victory over Newcastle United on Monday night.
That is according to pundit and Magpies legend Alan Shearer.
Chelsea recorded a much-needed 3-2 win yesterday at home to Newcastle in the Premier League.
Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk were on the scoresheet at Stamford Bridge to earn them three league points at Stamford Bridge.
For Mauricio Pochettino’s side, they keep themselves within touching distance of the European positions.

Palmer, who’s been Chelsea’s outstanding performer this year, yet again made a key contribution last night.
The 21-year-old attacker was a constant threat going forward from the right wing position, with full-back Malo Gusto overlapping him well.
His attempt at goal assisted the opener when Jackson’s improvised flick turned it goalward. Afterwards. he got on the scoresheet himself in the second half with a stunning low finish from outside the box.
Even Newcastle great Shearer raved about Chelsea’s Palmer for his latest display.
Shearer wrote on X: “He’s some player Cole Palmer man. Superb.”
He later added on X: “Chelsea, who are average at best deserved to win tonight. Palmer MOTM by a mile.”
Cole Palmer against Newcastle
Palmer’s now up to 13 goals and 11 assists in 33 Chelsea appearances during this debut year in west London.
There’s been a lot of criticism from the footballing world fired at Chelsea for their general recruitment in the last couple of years, rightly so in most cases. However, the Blues pulled off a transfer masterclass by signing Palmer from Manchester City last summer.
The England international is week in week out making a huge difference in Premier League matches.
Speaking via Sky Sports last week, Blues goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic admitted he’s been shocked by how good Palmer’s been during this phenomenal debut Chelsea season. This is certainly a very common opinion!
From what we’ve seen of Palmer playing for the Blues this year, it would be criminal if England boss Gareth Southgate doesn’t take him on the plane this summer to the Euro 2024 tournament.
