Jason Cundy produced a passionate response after Chelsea’s underwhelming performance on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea suffered a 4-1 defeat away to Newcastle United this weekend, which leaves them stranded mid-table in the Premier League standings.
On top of the bad result, the Blues capitulated with a really poor display at St James’ Park, particularly in the second-half.
Next, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will need to quickly regroup before next weekend’s match at home to Brighton.

Jason Cundy verdict
Cundy, who was on commentary duty for Chelsea’s official club website (4:55pm, 25 November), delivered a fiery instant reaction to the team’s efforts against Newcastle.
He’s made the pretty bold criticism that the Blues stars even “downed tools”.
Cundy said: “Well beaten today. The first-half was a competitive game, it could have gone either way. That second-half, the two goals we conceded in a minute, we downed tools. After Reece [James] got sent off it was a formality.
“The second-half performance is nowhere near it. Terrible second-half performance. All the things you require from any team playing any sport we lacked. That is damning criticism. I don’t want to criticise my club but that second-half performance there is going to be an inquest. It’s the worst under Pochettino we’ve played [in the second-half].”
Newcastle vs Chelsea teaches big lesson
Despite the fact they’re missing half a squad through injury, Newcastle proved on Saturday why they’re yet again in the mix for the division’s top four positions.
As for Chelsea, it’s a reminder that this team is still stuck in mid-table and with a lot of work to do.
Speaking via BBC Radio 5 Live today, Alan Shearer said that Chelsea were “terrible” versus Newcastle.
Many people in the media have been talking Chelsea up after the recent string of results and performances, but this young group is still very much in the inconsistent phase.
