Thiago Silva had a rare bad game in Chelsea colours this weekend.
Chelsea let slip any recent momentum by suffering a 4-1 away defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues were picking up some form in the Premier League before the international break, but they came crashing back down to earth with a day to forget at St James’ Park.
Thiago Silva, along with most of his Blues teammates, will be having nightmares about the latest defeat.
Speaking via his Instagram this evening, Silva even apologised and blamed himself after the Chelsea loss.
We’re very much in the camp that it was the entire team that folded in a dreadful second-half at Newcastle rather than putting the blame on just one individual.

Paul Merson left shocked
Paul Merson couldn’t quite believe what he saw today from Silva, who’s usually so reliable and dependable at the back.
The Chelsea centre-half was at fault for the Joelinton goal that put Newcastle 3-1 ahead, losing possession in his own half and being punished.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I didn’t think I’d see this but Silva has made a mistake. He goes to play it back to the keeper. He sort of takes a touch and Joelinton takes it off him. He’s 1v1 and he smashes it past the goalkeeper. I don’t think I’ve ever said that: Silva’s made a mistake, an unbelievable mistake.”
Silva’s an ever-present in the XI and has played every minute in the league this season. Will that streak continue in the games ahead, though?
Chelsea response
Let’s see how this Blues group responds to yet another setback this season.
Aside from Silva and a few others, this is a very young Chelsea squad that is naturally going to be pretty inconsistent.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side host Newcastle in December for a really important Carabao Cup quarter-final tie. There’s no doubt they’ll have to be a million times better the next time the teams clash.
The Blues have four league games before the cup showdown to play themselves back into form. It starts with a home fixture next weekend against a talented Brighton outfit.
