‘Very talented’: Mauricio Pochettino said he realised how good 21-year-old Chelsea player was last night

Mauricio Pochettino thinks everyone saw last night how good Chelsea’s Cole Palmer can actually be.

The Blues will be majorly relieved after a 1-0 win against Brighton on Wednesday evening, beating them in the third round of the Carabao Cup to set up a home tie against Blackburn Rovers.

Nicolas Jackson’s first-time finish into the bottom corner secured the win, but it came from a genius assist. Cole Palmer delicately slid the ball through the Brighton defender’s legs to assist the goalscorer.

Now, Chelsea will try to take some confidence into Monday’s Premier League fixture against neighbours Fulham.

Chelsea boss Pochettino was in much better spirits after watching his side pick up a rare win this season. In particular, he reserved major praise for Palmer’s individual display on his first ever start for the club.

“Cole is a very talented player, he was key in this victory tonight. Still young, still needs to settle in the club, not only the team, in the club and the city. I think we saw today how good he is,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Football London.

Joe Cole recently compared Palmer to both Tottenham’s James Maddison and Manchester City’s Jack Grealish, as quoted by TNT Sports. We can certainly see why now!

Palmer’s willingness to get on the ball to try create things really stands out in a Chelsea side lacking goals.

His £40million transfer (Sky Sports) from Manchester City in the summer was labelled by some as more reckless spending, but it could be real value if he manages to cement a spot in the XI.

We’re pretty confident the 21-year-old playmaker will keep getting better with more minues.

It’ll be a crime if he doesn’t get a start on Monday against Fulham in the Premier League.
