What Enzo Maresca did straight after tackle on Jadon Sancho during Liverpool game

Liverpool took the lead in the first half of their Premier League clash against Chelsea earlier.

The Reds were awarded a penalty just before the half-hour mark, which former Chelsea forward Mohamed Salah emphatically dispatched.

However, Enzo Maresca clearly wanted a spot-kick before Liverpool got theirs after a challenge on one of his players.

Chelsea actually started the game quite well, but a sloppy bit of defending from Levi Colwill resulted in Liverpool’s penalty and the Blues going 1-0 down.

Enzo Maresca’s appeal for penalty

Before Salah’s spot-kick, Jadon Sancho went down in the box after a challenge from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As per BBC Sport, Maresca was quick to outstretch his arms and appeal for a penalty, but neither the referee nor VAR were interested.

Sancho and Noni Madueke got a lot of the ball in the first half, but the former failed to produce much in the end.

Before the game, Maresca praised Madueke for his pressing and tracking back in a blue shirt.

Jadon Sancho’s underwhelming half

Since arriving at Chelsea from Manchester United at the end of the last transfer window, Sancho has impressed for the Blues.

In his first three games under Maresca, the winger registered three assists. However, his display against Liverpool was a bit disappointing.

He ran at Alexander-Arnold but did not get the better of him and failed to produce a pass, cross or shot afterwards.

Overall, though, Maresca will be pleased with what he has seen from Sancho in a Chelsea shirt so far.

Maresca recently stated that Sancho was doing well, which is a fair assessment. Again, he has looked sharp in Chelsea’s other matches.

Next up for the Blues is a Conference League tie against Panathinaikos. It is a game that Sancho is likely to be rested for, with Mykhailo Mudryk a strong candidate to come in for the England international.
