Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has singled out one Blues star by describing him as a “special player”.

There’s no doubt that Enzo Maresca inherited a very talented Chelsea squad when he took charge as the Blues manager in the summer.

So far, there’s several players that appear to be really enjoying their football under the Italian head coach in the opening months of the 2024/25 season. As a result, the team currently sit fourth in the Premier League table going into this weekend.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently told The Debrief that Chelsea’s players are really happy with Maresca right now.

Enzo Maresca hails ‘special’ Jadon Sancho

Maresca thinks on-loan Chelsea star Jadon Sancho is an extraordinary talent that just needs to keep working hard every day.

“Jadon is doing well, the only thing he needs to do is to continue in the same way, working hard every day,” Maresca said, as quoted by Chelsea’s official website.

“As I’ve said many times, for sure he is going to help us because we really believe he is a special player, but the only way to confirm that is to work hard every day and to never be happy, in terms of always being ambitious, wanting more and more and more.”

Jadon Sancho gamble is paying off

Chelsea signed Sancho in the summer on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United, which also includes a £25m obligation to buy (ESPN). In fairness, it felt like a bit of a gamble at the time because the English attacker struggled to impress during his time at Old Trafford.

Thankfully, Sancho has made a really positive start to his Blues career by creating three assists in his opening four appearances for them.

The 24-year-old attacker has quickly forced his way into Chelsea’s best starting line-up on the left wing, where he’s got the nod over teammate Mykhailo Mudryk.

The Guardian recently named Sancho as the Premier League’s best summer signing. We’re still in the early days of his time at Stamford Bridge, but he’s settled so quickly to already become an important player in the XI.

With the competition so incredibly high in Chelsea’s squad right now, none of the players can afford to let off or they’ll be quickly replaced.
