Kendry Paez is arguably one of the hottest talents in world football right now, but things just aren’t clicking for him on the international stage with Ecuador.

Chelsea have continued with their policy of signing some of the best young talents around the world over the past season or so, with Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez two of the batch.

Interestingly, the Blues are already really excited about the prospect of Paez and believe he can be a superstar, just like Estevao Willian.

However, things haven’t panned out for him in recent times, with the Ecuadorian media slamming Paez for his club performances recently.

Now, it appears as if his drop in form is being carried over to the international stage, as this is what the national media had to say about his latest international performance.

Kendry Paez slammed for his performance against Paraguay

Kendry Paez is still only 17 years of age, so he can’t be judged too harshly.

The fact he’s in senior international sides and playing senior football at club level shows how much of a talent he is. He needs pointing in the right direction and to be given a proper development program.

His latest performance for Ecuador wasn’t one to remember though, as the media slammed him.

ESPN Deportes did a report on the Ecuadorian side, and said this about Paez.

“He is not up to his level. His passes were very forced, many balls lost in the midfield. He was unable to create important collective plays with forward football.”

Paez has 22 touches, a passing accuracy of 80%, lost possession eight times and made two interceptions.

The plan for Kendry Paez at Chelsea

Kendry Paez hasn’t actually officially joined up with Chelsea yet, but that looks set to happen from 2025, where he was originally going to be on a higher wage than Cole Palmer.

It’s really important that if you’re paying these players high wages, you don’t let their focus and performances drop because they think they’re comfortable in their position.

Interestingly, the Ecuador manager came out recently and defended Paez for his performances recently, stating that he played very well before being replaced.

There’s nothing to worry about for Chelsea fans, as he’s still very much a raw talent who may just need the coaching of Enzo Maresca to point him in the right direction.
