19-year-old Chelsea youngster is injured, he was going to be involved vs Preston – journalist

Journalist Simon Johnson has claimed that one Chelsea youngster was actually supposed to be involved with the Blues during their FA Cup match at the weekend against Preston North End.

He took to Twitter to state that Leo Castledine has now picked up an injury in training, and therefore wasn’t able to make an appearance for the club.

Castledine is one of the youngsters those at Stamford Bridge have the most faith in right now, with him being involved in first team training for the majority of the campaign.

They have even opened talks over the youngster signing a new contract, despite the fact that they are continuing to bring in some of the top talents from around the world for the future.

The FA Cup tie on Saturday at Stamford Bridge was always designed to potentially give a number of younger stars an opportunity to make an impact in front of Mauricio Pochettino.

Alfie Gilchrist has made himself a bit of a cult hero with his cameo appearances in recent weeks, and he impressed in his first start for the club.

Castledine now injured

Johnson has now claimed that there was an intention for Castledine to feature too, however an injury in training has stopped him in his tracks.

He said: “If anyone was wondering why Leo Castledine wasn’t included on the Chelsea bench on Saturday…he was going to be involved but sustained an injury in training on Friday. It’s not a serious one but was enough to prevent him from being selected.”

Training injuries are beginning to come a large concern at Stamford Bridge, which was further proven by the absence of Christopher Nkunku again at the weekend.

The Frenchman was looking to be back from injury in recent weeks, however Pochettino confirmed at the weekend that he had now suffered a setback.
