Reports have claimed that Chelsea defender Levi Colwill now has a great chance of starting the club’s opening game of the Premier League season.

According to The Athletic, injuries suffered by Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have presented a great opportunity for the 20-year-old to start against Liverpool.

A lot of talk this summer has revolved around where Colwill will be playing his football next season, with him yet to make his competitive debut for the Blues.

He looked extremely impressive for Brighton on loan last season, and it is not surprising that they have wanted to make his time at the club permanent.

It has even been claimed that the player himself would be keen on the move too, with him being treated well by coaches and supporters during his time there.

There has even been talk that Chelsea’s opening day opponents are also keen on a deal. There, a path to become the heir to Virgil van Dijk is clear to see.

Colwill huge chance to start vs Liverpool

However, reports are now stating that he has a great chance of being able to show what he can do as early as the first league game of the season.

This is as a result of injury problems that are already plaguing the squad going into next season.

Badiashile has not travelled with the squad to the United States after still feeling the effects of an injury suffered before last season even came to an end.

As well as him, his countryman Fofana was also not seen on the plane to America and news quickly emerged that he had suffered a knee injury.

With the problem persistent since he joined the club, it is no doubt a worrying sign for the Blues’ man in terms of his future staying fit.
