‘I really do’: Behind the scenes Chelsea have a player who genuinely wants to leave, journalist suggests

Levi Colwill may secretly want to leave Chelsea this summer.

That has been suggested by journalist Graeme Bailey.

Levi Colwill, whose Chelsea future continues to be discussed in the media, is soon due to link up with the Blues first-team group for pre-season.

But will the 20-year-old Blues defender be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign?

Journalist Graeme Bailey believes that behind the scenes Chelsea do have a player that wants to exit Stamford Bridge.

He suggests that ball-playing centre-back Colwill will be uncertain over whether he can break into the Blues starting line-up, which is what makes interested buyers Liverpool confident of signing him this summer.

Speaking on 90min’s Talking Transfers podcast, Bailey commented on Colwill: “Colwill and [Wesley] Fofana could be brilliant but will Poch (Pochettino) trust those two young players to be there? He also has [Benoit] Badiashille there, I know he is injured at the start of the season, and he has [Marc] Cucurella.

“I’m not sure Colwill believes Chelsea that he will get picked ahead of them and that’s a situation where we might have to wait until the start of the season, but that’s why Liverpool are confident, and I think behind the scenes Colwill wants to leave. I really do. And not because he doesn’t like Chelsea, but because he’s not 100% clear on his path to the team.”

As far as we’re concerned, Colwill’s future is still undecided and conversations with Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochetitnto will play a big role in his fate.

The Daily Mail has reported that Colwill will soon sit down for face-to-face talks with Pochettino about his role at Stamford Bridge. They added the club want to give him a new contract and keep him.

We’ve read numerous rumours about clubs being in for the highly-rated Blues centre-half. Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed on Twitter that Tottenham, Liverpool, Brighton and Manchester City are all interested in Colwill.

Our hope is that Pochettino can convince Chelsea’s academy graduate to stay and fight for a starting position next season.
