Chelsea have had so many injury problems this season, with Ben Chilwell a recent casualty.

Wesley Fofana has also had trouble staying fit and is yet to play a single minute of football under Mauricio Pochettino.

According to LondonWorld, it is unlikely that the central defender will recover from his injury before the end of the campaign.

It has been the story of Fofana’s Chelsea career so far following his arrival from Leicester City in 2022.

The 23-year-old, who earns £200,000 a week at Stamford Bridge (Spotrac), was only able to make 12 Premier League starts for the Blues last term because of injury. It had been hoped that he would feature before the campaign concludes, but it does not look like that is going to happen anymore.

Wesley Fofana unlikely to play a game for Chelsea this season

It is a shame that Pochettino has not had Fofana available and probably will not until the next campaign.

The Frenchman has proven in the Premier League that he is a very good defender when fit.

For example, during the 2020/21 season, Fofana won 3.3 aerial duels per game. No one in Leicester’s squad managed to record a higher average (WhoScored).

That season, Fofana also helped the Foxes to win the FA Cup, beating Chelsea 1-0 in the final.

Hopefully, then, the France international will be able to stay fit during the 2024/25 campaign. If not, then Pochettino will have to continue relying on the likes of Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill, while the Argentine could also sign off on a new central defender being brought to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona’s Jules Kounde to strengthen their backline.

Because of Fofana’s injury problems and the possibility of Thiago Silva leaving west London this summer when his contract expires, it is a deal that could make sense and one Pochettino would probably not say no to.
