Conor Gallagher is starting to think he may get to lead Chelsea out as captain at Wembley Stadium in next month’s League Cup final.
Chelsea are still in the mix to reach the Carabao Cup final on 25 February, but first they’ve got to get past Championship side Middlesbrough in a two-legged semi-final tie. Meanwhile, Fulham face Liverpool in the other semi.
It may be a relief for some Blues supporters to hear Conor Gallagher, 23, is already thinking about captaining his boyhood club at Wembley Stadium.
This is despite the continuous transfer speculation that exists around his future.
The Guardian claims that there’s an expectation that Gallagher won’t leave Chelsea in the January transfer window.
It is explained that the 23-year-old’s prepared to stay and fight for his future, despite the fact that the club is willing to listen to transfer offers for him this month.
The report says that Gallagher won’t be pressured because he’s still go 18 months left on his deal in West London. Apparently, nothing final has been decided yet, so perhaps he could still sign a contract extension further down the line.
In addition, The Guardian shares that the sense around Cobham is that Gallagher is hopeful of leading out Chelsea in February’s League Cup Final.
He’s been a regular wearer of the armband this season, largely because club captain Reece James and vice-captain Ben Chilwell have both been unavailable through injury for large spells.
It’s a timely reminder that Gallagher’s a boyhood Chelsea fan and it means so much to him playing for this club. You can tell that just by the way he plays, too!
We’d love to see the Blues academy graduate continue his excellent form this season and captain the team in a cup final.
