Journalist Bobby Vincent has now claimed that one Chelsea player is getting very close to making a return to action.

He took to Twitter to state that vice-captain Ben Chilwell is actually ahead of schedule when it comes to coming back from an injury suffered earlier this season.

Chilwell’s injury demons have not yet left him for this season, and he has seen an extended spell on the sidelines again for this campaign.

His absence has left his position a bit scarce at times, with Marc Cucurella undergoing surgery recently and now beginning his own rehabilitation.

There has seemingly been no faith in playing Ian Maatsen in his natural position, and this has led to centre-back Levi Colwill featuring out of position in his first season at he club.

This experiment may not need to go on for too much longer. Vincent has claimed that Chilwell is actually ahead of schedule when it comes to a return from injury.

Chilwell close to return

He said: “Ben Chilwell very close to returning to action (I’m told slightly ahead of schedule).”

Injuries have been a problem all across their defence this season. The opposite flank in particular has seen a number of issues to an unfortunate usual suspect.

Reece James has also had no better luck this season, featuring in just a handful of games since being named captain by Mauricio Pochettino.

His most recent issue has seen the topic of surgery put on the table, with it being claimed today that this option will be taken in an attempt to put an end to his hamstring woes.

A return for Chilwell will be a great boost not only because of his ability, but the fact that Colwill could provide a more regular option to play at centre-back.
