While Chelsea were largely successful over the summer in terms of their transfer plans, there was one target they were unable to get their hands on.

Elye Wahi was reportedly a target for the Blues after a really strong campaign for Montpellier in 2022/23.

He scored 19 goals in Ligue 1 last season, leaving a number of big clubs reportedly interested in bringing him in.

One of those was Chelsea, who reportedly made a bid to sign the talented 20-year-old to try and address their goalscoring woes.

However, the player ended up rejecting the deal, instead sealing a £30m move across the country to RC Lens in order to play Champions League football.

He came out to say that he didn’t want to join Chelsea for the sake of it, instead preferring to play first team football on a more regular basis.

Wahi starring in the Champions League

This decision seems to have paid off for the youngster, with him now playing a starring role for his new club in the Champions League.

In three group stage games so far, he has scored twice and assisted once, with this also helping them pick up their biggest result of the season as of yet.

They beat Arsenal 2-1 in the second game of the group, with the striker taking the headlines after a sensational strike.

Back at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have been trying to get the best out of Nicolas Jackson, who they signed to play up front instead.

While he has looked good in spells, goalscoring doesn’t seem to be a strength of the former Villarreal man, and this has led to reports they may enter the market again for another striker.

The potential additions include Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney.
