A poll conducted by GOAL has seen Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly voted as a better player than AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.

The Englishman was sold by the Blues last year, after a successful loan spell had come to an end with the current Serie A champions.

This season, the 25-year-old had his first opportunity to prove what Chelsea had let go.

Unfortunately for Tomori, he hardly took that opportunity to the max.

The Blues met Milan in two crucial Champions League games consecutively, with the Blues under new manager Graham Potter without a win in the first two group matches.

A 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge saw Tomori struggle with striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and things got no better when he was sent off early in the reverse fixture for a foul on Mason Mount.

Koulibaly better than Tomori

Despite this, he still ranks as number 42 on GOAL’s fan-voted list.

Three places higher comes Kalidou Koulibaly, who has been settling into life in the Premier League after his summer signing from Napoli.

Despite a few hairy moments, the 31-year-old has mostly shown why he has been so highly regarded throughout his time in Serie A.

He has also enjoyed a positive World Cup, which he will surely take confidence from heading into the second half of the season.

Chelsea fans will be hoping he begins to show signs that he can take over the responsibility of Thiago Silva when he eventually leaves the club.

The Brazilian is often looked to as the calm and composed central member of a back three, and there will surely be hopes that Koulibaly can develop his game to fill that role.

This could also open up the vacancy of left centre-back at the perfect time, with reports suggesting the Blues are pushing hard to sign Josko Gvardiol.
