After the dust has started to settle on Chelsea’s recent transfer window exploits, the situation of their first team has become a lot clearer to see.

A lot was made of the bloated squad Enzo Maresca was having to deal with, however the Italian remained insistent that the group he was working with was not as big as was being perceived.

He made it clear that a number of senior players were simply not in his plans for the upcoming season.

Ben Chilwell has been told there is no way back for him, despite the club not yet finding a new home for him.

Another player who is yet to feature in the Premier League this season is Axel Disasi, with the boss not changing his defensive pairing of Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana as of yet.

Axel Disasi the last choice centre-back at Chelsea

Despite joining for a fee of £38m only a year ago, The Athletic have reported that Disasi is now at the bottom of the queue when it comes to first team players featuring at centre-back.

The piece goes on to say that his most likely place to play is at right-back, a position he looks far less comfortable in.

The two current right-back options are both injured, with Malo Gusto joining Reece James on the treatment table.

Gusto has withdrawn from international duty with France due to the issue, with him looking unlikely to be fit for the next game against Bournemouth.

While this does offer Disasi a chance for involvement, it feels more likely that Maresca is going to look another way when it comes to picking his team.

Moises Caicedo has been utilised in this role in emergencies this season and during pre-season, although he does have experience filling the position from his time at Brighton.

Maresca also has the chance to try one of his youngsters in this situation, with Josh Acheampong ready and waiting for his opportunity to impress the manager.
