It was hard to keep track of Chelsea’s transfer targets in the summer due to the sheer volume of speculation, which is why we expected one or two gems to slip through the net.

In our view, Leicester City’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is one Blues target that they may have really missed out on.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side could end up looking back at a bargain that has gotten away from them.

Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips reported via his Substack in August that Chelsea were considering £22million-rated Dewsbury-Hall as a summer transfer target.

He ended up staying in Leicester colours despite their relegation from the Premier League, and is now tearing it up in the Championship.

Yes, bare in mind we’re talking about someone playing in the second-tier. However, the Englishman keeps improving and we’re certain will be a big hit when he gets his next crack in the Premier League.

The central midfielder’s scored five goals and provided three assists in 11 Championship appearances, which is an eye-catching return from his position.

He’s given the licence in this Enzo Maresca Leicester side to roam from the centre of the park into more advanced position, which is exactly what is being asked of Conor Gallagher in Chelsea’s XI.

Dewsbury-Hall showed flashes of his quality during 59 Premier League appearances for the Foxes. There’s so much more to come from the Englishman, though.

He’s a left-footed playmaker with a real knack of breaking the lines with his dribbling, which he’s now combining with end product.

We expect his valuation to rocket after a full season as one of the very best in the Championship division, so perhaps Chelsea missed the chance to grab a future England international on the cheap.
