£62m Chelsea player actually asked to leave the club in January, it didn’t happen

Reports have claimed that one Chelsea player actually asked if he could leave the club during the recent January transfer window.

According to Football Transfers, winger Mykhailo Mudryk requested a loan move away from the club in order to get up to speed with things, with his request being denied.

It has been another stop-start campaign for Mudryk so far this season, with him unable to convince Mauricio Pochettino that he should have a regular starting role.

The manager even directly addressed the situation recently, explaining why he has continued to bench the winger.

Despite showing more glimpses than before this season, many supporters will still be feeling as if they have been short changed for the original fee of £62m their club paid to sign him.

It looked as if from the moment Pochettino joined the club that Mudryk was somewhat of a pet project for him, with confidence seemingly on the floor.

This could perhaps explain why reports are now stating that the Ukraine international actually asked for a temporary move away last month in order to get some more regular game time.

Chelsea have the likes of Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku who can all feature in the role on the left Mudryk would ideally be playing.

While it hasn’t worked out up to now, it may perhaps be wise to wait and see how he performs if reports are true and the manager trials a new system in a last attempt to try and save his job at Stamford Bridge.

It has been claimed that a change to a back five could be on the cards, and the attacking nature of wing-back Ben Chilwell could actually spell bad news for Mudryk and his minutes, with them likely occupying the same space a lot of the time.
