Chelsea’s Timo Werner showed his class in the Nations League as Germany smashed Italy 5-2.
The forward scored twice in quick succession in the second half, with 90min waxing lyrical over his performance up front for this dangerous Germany team.
The 26-year-old struggled domestically last season, failing to nail down a starting place in Thomas Tuchel’s attack.
He scored just four goals in 21 games in the league, although he did match that figure in just five Champions League fixtures.
His season could have exploded if his goal at the Bernabeu had seen the Blues complete a memorable comeback against Real Madrid, but late drama resulted in the strike meaning little.
Werner has at times saved his best for the national team, where he has scored 24 goals in 53 games.
In last night’s round of fixtures, Werner’s double helped him to an 8/10 rating from 90min, with his typical hard work causing a rebuilding Italy side the types of problems England couldn’t do a few days ago.
Despite this, reports have been speculating that Tuchel has considered selling the German this summer, with Chelsea looking to add more consistent output to their frontline.
The Telegraph suggested the Blues are willing to listen to offers for the Germany international, as well as Hakim Ziyech.
Manchester City pair Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus are a couple of proven goalscorers the club are linked with, with their Premier League experience certainly in the club’s mind.

No one has ever questioned Werner’s effort levels, which traditionally results to goals for forwards. This has not been the case for the German though.
At times in both of his Chelsea seasons, he looks completely lost for confidence in front of goal, which has cost the club in big opportunities and more recently cost Werner a starting role.
It feels like a move abroad would be better for everyone involved, with the forward looking to return to the form he showed at RB Leipzig.
