Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has handed out more bad news for Chelsea fans as far as injuries go.

He claimed in his post-match press conference that defender Marc Cucurella had picked up an injury in the second half of the defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

The disappointing result could now be overshadowed by the backlash of the injury concerns that the Blues are now facing.

Reece James was forced off the pitch again with what seems to be another hamstring injury after they have threatened to have a real impact on his career already.

While there is no official diagnosis yet, Pochettino’s post-game worry suggests it could be a real issue for the Blues.

However, he has now shared that he is not the only defender to fall foul of an injury on Merseyside. He hinted that Cucurella could also be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Cucurella injured as well as James

He said: “He [Robert Sanchez] suffered a problem against Manchester United in his knee and he felt something in the second half. Hope it is not a big issue like Marc Cucurella, twisted his ankle.

“Hope we can recover as soon as possible. These type of circumstances we are dealing with from the beginning and it is too much if we want to progress.”

The Spaniard has been relied upon a lot so far this season, with his versatility being the main reason he has been such a key figure for Pochettino.

He has played at right-back as much as he has in his more favoured left-back role, and made the switch over there again when James was forced off midway through the first half.

It remains to be seen if he will be available in six days’ time to face Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.
