Despite Chelsea’s struggles on the pitch this season, there’s still been a few standout individuals able to consistently play well.

We sense the mood within the Blues fanbase is pretty low right now, but can they turn it around after the international break with a strong finish to the campaign?

The likes of Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Malo Gusto can hold their head high as decent performers at Stamford Bridge,

Gary Cahill, who previously captained Chelsea and had a glittering spell in west London, has actually spoken very positively about his former club this week. In particular, he’s praised the quality of a £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) Blues star.

Gary Cahill impressed

Cahill’s showered Chelsea’s Gallagher for his general footballing ability and his impact in the squad at the Bridge.

He’s a huge admirer of the 24-year-old midfielder, who’s been one of the few main starters in Mauricio Pochettino’s line-up.

“I like Gallagher, who I think is one of the best players at the moment. I like the way he goes about his game, his pressing, his professionalism, and him just being a great footballer. I believe his attributes can rub off on the rest of the squad. That would be great,” Cahill told The Evening Standard.

Club should listen to the Conor Gallagher praise

Cahill becomes the latest in a long line of players, past and present, to speak so glowingly about Gallagher.

However, that won’t stop the speculation in the media that points towards Chelsea potentially selling the England international this summer.

Journalist Simon Phillips reported via Substack earlier this month that Chelsea’s desire is to sell Gallagher at the end of the season. He rates the chances of the central midfielder being sold as 50/50 right now.

Gallagher’s still got areas of his game he can improve on. For example, his return of four goals and seven assists in 38 appearances this season is average for him.

However, it feels imperative to us that he stays part of this squad and gets a new deal.
