‘A huge smile’: BBC pundit thinks Chelsea’s summer signing is loving life at Stamford Bridge so far

BBC pundit Matt Upson thinks Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks very happy right now in Chelsea colours.

Aubameyang, who joined the Blues in the summer from Barcelona, scored against last night in Chelsea’s 3-0 home win against AC Milan in the Champions League group stages.

The 33-year-old striker now has two goals in two games as he begins to find his feet on his return to English football.

He scored his first goal for the club on the weekend against Crystal Palace with an instinctive finish strike on the half-turn. His goal last night against AC Milan showed real quality, too. He scored a typical centre-forward’s goal by finding space in the six-yard box to tap in a cross from Reece James.

Aubameyang looks happy

Upson thinks that Chelsea’s new No.9 is loving life at Stamford Bridge this season:

“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wears it all on his face and he has a huge smile on his face at this club. So far from what we’ve seen, he looks a goal threat and he is what Chelsea have needed. Yes, he has a chequered history which leaves a question mark over him, but so far he looks happy playing in this team,” Upson told BBC Radio 5 Live (10:31pm, 5 October).

The Blues striker can definitely still improve his game to be more involved in his team’s build up play, but he’s providing them with something that’s been missing lately. His ability to be clinical around the box means he could turn out to be a great signing.

The former Arsenal man definitely looks like he’s enjoying his football after a sour exit from the Premier league earlier this year, so it’s great to see him back with a spring in his step.

More goals will come

If Aubameyang keeps getting in the right positions, then Chelsea fans should get used to plenty more goals.

He’s proven over a long and successful career he’s reliable at putting the ball in the net, so Graham Potter’s side need to use him wisely.

The likes of James and Ben Chilwell should be looking to feed the forward every game around the penalty area.

Aubameyang is definitely the kind of striker that comes alive in the box after periods of quiet, which is what this Blues XI needs to break teams down at times.

Described as “talented” by Kalidou Koulibaly, let’s hope the club finally have a centre-forward that’s consistent with his goalscoring.
