Chelsea are currently preparing ahead of their return to action this weekend against Burnley. Unsurprisingly, the Blues still have nowhere near a fully fit squad after the international break.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side host Burnley on Saturday afternoon in a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea confirmed via their official website there’s nine first-team players on their injury list for the weekend.

In fact, speaking in Thursday afternoon’s press conference, Blues head coach Pochettino has mentioned a 10th name that may also be a doubt to play.

Mauricio Pochettino gives injury update

Ben Chilwell, who started both England games during the international break, is now a concern for Chelsea.

The 27-year-old left-back has suffered a dead leg which caused him to miss training with his club side today.

Pochettino has provided an update on his £50 million defender (Sky Sports).

He said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “We still need to assess a few players like Chilwell after playing two games.

“He played two games and got a knock, a dead leg in his knee.

“Today, he wasn’t ready to train. We will see what will happen tomorrow, whether he can be available to be in the squad or not.”

Ben Chilwell has such bad luck

Thankfully Chilwell’s latest problem doesn’t sound too severe, but it threatens to keep him out of yet another Chelsea match.

The full-back’s only played 19 games across all competitions so far this season due to various injuries, which is very much the story of his Blues career.

Speaking via talkSPORT recently after an England performance, Perry Groves criticised Chilwell and urged him to show more dynamism up and down the left flank.

However, we’ve got sympathy for the Chelsea vice-captain because it’s becoming increasingly difficult for him to trust his own body.

If Chilwell’s unavailable after a late test before Burnley, Marc Cucurella’s a decent alternative for Chelsea at left-back
