Aaron Ramsey shares if he would start Chelsea’s Cole Palmer for England

Welsh legend Aaron Ramsey has shared whether he thinks Chelsea’s Cole Palmer should be starting for England at international level.

Cole Palmer, 22, has become a high-profile name in the last year due to his incredible success since moving to Chelsea from Manchester City. The attacker’s record of 31 goals and 20 assists in 55 Blues appearances speaks for itself.

So far, the left-footed playmaker is still trying to establish himself as a mainstay in the England national side. He did start both Nations League matches this month under interim Three Lions boss Lee Carsley, but during the summer Euro 2024 tournament he didn’t start a single game.

Now that Thomas Tuchel has been officially appointed England’s new manager, Chelsea fans will be intrigued to see how Palmer fits into the plans.

Incidentally, Darren Bent suggested Reece James could be recalled by England to reunite him with Tuchel.

Aaron Ramsey would start Cole Palmer

Aaron Ramsey has been discussing England and the selection dilemmas that await Tuchel. Interestingly, he’s admitted that he would put Chelsea’s Palmer in the starting line-up if he was in charge.

When asked if he would start Manchester City attacker Phil Foden for England, Ramsey told Sky Sports: “I think at the moment you have to play Palmer. I think the form that he’s in…”

He was further asked if there’s only room for one from Foden or Palmer: “I think so, yeah. You want pace from [Anthony] Gordon and [Bukayo] Saka. It would be one of them two at the moment.”

Palmer had one his poorest Chelsea appearances against Liverpool, so we’re expecting a huge backlash next weekend at home to Newcastle United.

The 22-year-old talisman will watch from the sidelines his teammates play Panathinaikos on Thursday evening in the Conference League group stages because he’s been left out of the squad to manage his workload.

Therefore, Palmer should be fit and raring to go next Sunday when the Blues host Newcastle in the league.

The English star struggled to make his mark in the recent 2-1 away defeat at Liverpool. It’s very rare that he has back-to-back quiet games in Chelsea colours, though.
