Alan Shearer really liked what he saw from Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling in the recent Premier League classic against Manchester City.
Chelsea and Man City played out a memorable 4-4 draw on Sunday, which was the final game before this current international break.
Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino will have been able to take several big positives from the game at Stamford Bridge.
For certain, Raheem Sterling’s individual display stood out as one of the huge pluses.
The £50million winger (BBC), extra motivated playing against his former club, scored his fifth goal of the season across all competitions. He gave Man City and England full-back Kyle Walker a really tough time, too.

Alan Shearer left amazed
Shearer included two Chelsea players in his Premier League Team of the Week, including Sterling.
He wrote via the Premier League’s official website: “Raheem Sterling (Chelsea) – Absolutely superb. Unlucky not to be in the England squad.”
Shearer picked out Cole Palmer, 21, as another elite performer from the Man City draw. It’s no surprise that he’s since received his maiden call-up to England’s senior squad.
He said: “Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – Showed nerves of steel with his penalty to equalise against his former club. He was excellent throughout as well.”
Raheem Sterling
Commenting on Sterling’s Instagram account at the weekend, John Terry hailed the Chelsea attacker’s latest performance.
The 28-year-old wide player is looking back to his best during this 2023/24 season, which is his second year in West London.
He’s emerging as one of the key figures in Pochettino’s XI. That’s no real surprise when you consider his experience compared to most of his teammates in a very young squad.
Sterling’s latest omission from Gareth Southgate’s England squad is receiving criticism from all corners. There’s no doubt from us that he should be with the Three Lions, even pushing to be in the starting line-up.
Chelsea fans won’t be complaining that one of their key stars gets a mini rest again this month ahead of the winter run-in. Hopefully, the team can keep up this recent momentum when they travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United after the international break.
