Al Ittihad frontman Karim Benzema would be an incredible signing for Chelsea.
That is according to EPSN pundit Shaka Hislop.
The transfer speculation is hotting up this week that Karim Benzema, 36, is a potential target for the Blues.
Journalist Simon Phillips has reported via Substack today that Chelsea have discussed internally Benzema as a January target. It’s going to be very tough to prise him away from the Saudi Pro League, though.

Hislop thinks that Benzema is the type of experienced player and quality centre-forward that would make a huge difference to Chelsea’s squad.
He told ESPN: “I think Chelsea should say absolutely yes [to signing Benzema]… Given where Chelsea are, given who Chelsea have shown themselves to be, I think Karm Benzema coming in giving a bit of experience and a bit of quality in the striker position is something they desperately need.
“Just in terms of an easy and natural fit, Benzema to Chelsea makes a whole lot of sense to me.”
Chelsea should sign Shaka Hislop
We’re still on the fence on this potential deal. Regardless, there’s no point worrying unless the rumours pick up in the final couple of weeks of the January window.
Of course, Benzema’s had a sensational career and won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best player as recently as 2022.
However, it seemed like a sign that his time at the top was over when he moved to Saudi Arabia last year.
Benzema earns close to £2million-a-week for Al Ittihad (Capology), so we’d love to know how the financial side of things work if he moves to England. That’s before you even debate if the French veteran could arrive in the Premier League and score lots of goals from day one.
