Chelsea do have a small chance of signing Al Ittihad striker Karim Benzema.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

The former Real Madrid superstar is the surprise name to be linked with Chelsea during this January transfer window.

ESPN reported this week that Chelsea are one of several clubs to be interested in signing Benzema this month.

So, will the 36-year-old get his desired wish to leave the Saudi Pro League this year?

Phillips has reported via his Substack on Thursday that Chelsea do have an interest in Benzema, with the club discussing him internally as a potential target.

Apparently, it’s going to be “very tough” for the Blues to sign the French attacker, yet “not impossible”.

He’s added that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly does have good relationships in Saudi Arabia, which would boost their chances in the Benzema pursuit.

For now, this transfer deal is still rated as one to watch.

It would be quite remarkable if Boehly is able to pull a few strings and help Chelsea sign Benzema.

Described as “amazing” by Jose Mourinho in The Sun back in 2021, Benzema is truly a great of the modern game.

He’s scored 12 goals in 20 appearances since moving to the Saudi Pro League. Most people will be curoius as to whether he could return to European football and still score goals for fun, something he’s done during most of his illustrious career.

Chelsea’s current squad is stacked with so much inexperience. The youngsters couldn’t ask for better mentors than Benzema and Thiago Silva in the dressing room, though.
