Romelu Lukaku helped inspire Chelsea to victory yesterday in the Premier League – and even some Aston Villa fans on Twitter were impressed by his performance against them.

The Blues came from behind on Boxing Day to earn three points in their 3-1 win away to Villa.

Chelsea’s Reece James headed in an own goal to put the hosts in front at Villa Park. However, Jorginho’s quick-fire response from the penalty spot levelled it at 1-1 before half time.

Lukaku, who entered the action at the break, was brilliant during his 45 minutes on the pitch.

The 28-year-old centre-forward returned to action with a decisive header that put his team in front. Also, he won the penalty that Jorginho converted in the closing stages to seal victory.

A selection of Villa supporters on social media admitted they ran into a fierce opponent in Lukaku at the weekend.

The Midlands club were competing well during the first half and may have felt confident going into the break at 1-1. However, Lukaku was the ultimate game-changer from the bench.

The left-footed striker now has nine goals in 11 career appearances against Villa, so it may not have come as a surprise to the opposition that he tormented them once again.

It was a completely different proposition for centre-halves Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa when he entered the action in the second half.

Blues teammate Ben Chilwell posted a message reading “can’t stop Rom” after his performance.
